How to Style Shorts for a Summer Night Out

"A song like you is a ripple of the waves,
 That rises to a hurricane.
Oh woah, oh oh, oh woah
A song like you is a whispered lullaby,
 That's drowned out by a baby's cry.
Oh woah, oh oh, oh woah

A song like you would never tell me the truth.
It would turn me on, break me down, make me feel like there is nothing outside this room.
A song like you would have me lost in my youth.
Oh, baby, a song like you

I play it every night." -- Bea Miller, A Song Like You

Styling Note: I only own two pairs of shorts. You will almost never see me wearing them because I feel like dresses are more fun and less fuss to style. But I can respect that it is summer, that I live in the South, - sort of - and it's hot. Wearing a long maxi dress to girl's night or date night is not really always feasible. So for this post I wanted to show how I would wear shorts for a night out on the town.

The first part of elevating your shorts look is wearing a part that is not basic. The pair I am wearing has a lot of destruction and a frayed hem. There is something to them. Rather than a simple, but cute top, I went with a lace bodysuit to amp up the drama. I like the ones from ASOS Curve because they actually fit my bust and when worn with the right bra (yes, I still recommend wearing a bra), they are just the right amount of racy. Balancing out the lace bodysuit and super short shorts is a long, flowing kimono. The kimono provides coverage if I were to wear it in a restaurant or somewhere with a breeze. The stark white high-tops link back to the kimono and pull the entire outfit together.
